Local Hoopers Qualify for Sectionals in Skills Competition

Hayward Wis - On May 22, 2022 the Rising Stars Basketball Club collaborated with Kwik Trip, and former NBA Sharpshooter, Steve Novak, to hold a local basketball shooting skills competition. 

​The competition is called, "2s Frees & 3s", and is a new organizational inititaive formed by Wisconsinite, former NBA sharpshooter, and Marquette University legend, Steve Novak.  

The Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe School was the site location for the state-wide initiative to find, "The best shooter in the state", which includes age ranges from:

+ 9 and Under 
+ 10-12 years old
+ 13-15 years old
+ 16-39 years old
+ 40-49 years old
+ 50-54 years old
+ 55-60 years old
+ 61+ years old

There were 27 events held state-wide, and Hayward Wisconsin was one of those event sites.  The competition includes a series of shots for a grand total of 75 points.  Out of the 75 points, a winner will emerge, and advance to the Sectional Finals; to be announced in July 2022. 

The Rising Stars Basketball Club played host to the May 22nd event in Hayward at the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe School, where 27 basketball players showed up to show off their stuff.  

After four long hours of shooting, winners were identified and provided awards for their performance.

The scores were sent into the 2s Frees & 3s Headquarters for tabulation, and winners will be notified about the location for Sectionals in July 2022.  

Athletes advancing are encouraged to keep working on their shot, practice the course regularly, and aim to improve their score.  

Rising Stars Basketball will also be planning a Jr NBA Skills Competition with winners advancing to nationals with the possibility to compete at the 2023 NBA All-Star Game.
